On the 7th of September 2008, Thimphu, the capital city of the remote Himalayan Buddhist Kingdom of Bhutan, will host the first ever International Marathon. The marathon course will follow the Thimphu Chhu (Thimphu River) and head north to the southern boundary of the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Park.

Visitors to Bhutan have marveled at the rich and pristine natural heritage of Bhutan. With its rich and vibrant culture, Bhutan has established itself as a premier travel destination. Marathon Bhutan 2008 is the perfect way to relish the natural and cultural heritage of the world’s last Himalayan Buddhist Kingdom. Besides the challenge of competing at an altitude of 2400 meters, Marathon Bhutan is a great opportunity to celebrate history as Bhutan ushers in democracy, toasts one hundred years of Monarchy and formally celebrates the Coronation of the Fifth Thunder Dragon Monarch in 2008.
